The Conference
The 3rd IWA Conference on Sustainable Natural and Engineered Water Systems Management (SWSM-2026) provides a high-level international platform for scientists, engineers, policy makers, industry leaders, young professionals and institutional stakeholders to exchange scientific knowledge, technological innovations and practical experience in sustainable water systems management.
The conference addresses major global challenges at the interface of water sustainability, environmental health, food safety, climate resilience and sustainable development. Particular attention is given to water resources in water-scarce and climate-vulnerable regions, where population growth, agricultural intensification, urbanisation, emerging contaminants and climate change call for integrated solutions.
A central focus is the occurrence, monitoring, fate, treatment and management of contaminants of emerging concern in natural and engineered water systems — antibiotic residues, endocrine-disrupting compounds, microplastics, nanoplastics, PFAS, pathogens and other pollutants affecting environmental and human health. Advanced treatment technologies, nature-based solutions, water reuse, circular water systems, desalination and resource recovery receive particular emphasis.
Given the growing interconnection between water resources, food production and public health, the conference promotes interdisciplinary discussion around the Water-Food-Health Nexus, encouraging collaboration between researchers, regulatory agencies, water utilities, agricultural stakeholders, technology providers and international organisations.
Hosted in Agadir, one of the most dynamic agricultural and water innovation regions in North Africa, the conference showcases experience and innovation in sustainable horticulture, water-efficient agriculture, desalination, wastewater reuse and climate adaptation. Alongside the scientific programme, delegates will take part in networking activities and technical visits to agricultural infrastructure in the Souss-Massa region.
