About the Conference

SWSM 2026 is the 3rd IWA Conference on Sustainable Natural and Engineered Water Systems Management, held in Agadir, Morocco from 14 to 16 December 2026.

A high-level international platform

The conference provides a high-level international platform for scientists, engineers, policy makers, industry leaders, young professionals and institutional stakeholders to exchange scientific knowledge, technological innovations and practical experience.

The central subject is the sustainable management of water systems, connecting water sustainability with environmental health, food safety, climate resilience and sustainable development, with particular attention to water-scarce and climate-vulnerable regions.

Challenges addressed

The conference promotes integrated approaches to sustainable water management in response to pressures on natural and engineered water systems.

Core scientific focus

A major focus is the occurrence, monitoring, fate, treatment and management of contaminants of emerging concern in natural and engineered water systems.

Antibiotic residues
Endocrine-disrupting compounds
Microplastics and nanoplastics

Other pollutants affecting environmental and human health

Technologies and systems

Alongside contaminants of emerging concern, the conference emphasises the technologies and system approaches that make water services sustainable.

Water-Food-Health Nexus

Another central area is the Water-Food-Health Nexus, examined across scientific, regulatory and operational perspectives.

Why Agadir

Agadir and the Souss-Massa region are among North Africa’s important regions for water and agricultural innovation, combining desalination, wastewater reuse, water-efficient agriculture, climate adaptation and sustainable horticulture.

Delegates will be able to see real-world water solutions in operation, not only discuss them theoretically.

Previous editions

SWSM began in Bangkok, Thailand in 2023 and continued in Xi’an, China in 2024. The 3rd edition takes place in Agadir, Morocco in 2026.

Dates, venue and key deadlines

SWSM 2026 takes place from 14 to 16 December 2026 at the Agadir Horticultural Complex of the Hassan II Institute of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine, in Agadir, Morocco.

The scientific programme

Three days of plenary lectures, parallel technical sessions and poster presentations are organised around the conference thematic axes, with time set aside for discussion between researchers and practitioners.

Registration and practical information

Registration, accommodation and visa support for SWSM 2026 are handled through dedicated pages, so that delegates travelling to Morocco can prepare well in advance of December 2026.

The SWSM series is organised in association with the International Water Association (IWA), and SWSM 2026 is hosted in Agadir by the Hassan II Institute of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine. Practical details for delegates are on the venue and host page.
